Richard is also a Visiting Professor, Department of Geography, Environment and Energy Studies, University of Johannesburg, South Africa and Adjunct Senior Research Scientist on the Millennium Cities Initiative at Columbia University’s Earth Institute.

Richard Grant is a human geographer whose research focuses primarily on the economic and social geography of Africa, with an emphasis on issues surrounding urbanization and urban economies in West and Southern Africa. His most recent major publication is Africa: Geographies of Change (Oxford University Press, 2014).
